A familiar question asks, “Who am I?” Another question opens a different kind of conversation: “Who am I choosing to become?”
The first can lead us towards descriptions we have repeated for years. The second invites us to participate in what happens next. We can recognise our history while giving our imagination room to describe a life we would love to live.
Signature Signal begins with that choice. Signal is the internal transmission of who we believe ourselves to be, expressed through how we think, feel, communicate and act. It is a way of exploring the relationship between identity and experience. The question becomes practical very quickly: what would the person I choose to be bring into this moment?
Let the chosen life become specific
Imagine a day in the life you desire. Give it more detail than a list of achievements. How do you wake up? What do you notice? How do you speak to someone you love? How do you approach work, uncertainty, rest and contribution?
See what you see in that life. Hear what you hear. Notice how it feels to be the person living it. Allow the experience to become sufficiently clear that you can recognise something of its quality NOW.
You may discover that freedom includes how you arrange your day. Leadership may include the way you listen. Confidence may include the willingness to ask a question without first knowing the answer. These qualities give your chosen identity an expression you can practise.
Your Signal enters the ordinary moment
Within this framework, Signal leads into state, perception, meaning, behaviour and results. This sequence offers questions to explore; it is not a claim that every outcome has a single cause.
Consider a conversation you have been postponing. From one identity, you may imagine yourself defending a position. From your chosen identity, you may begin with curiosity, clarity and a willingness to name what matters. The circumstances may be the same, while the response you choose becomes different.
That is where identity becomes more than a description. You express it through an observable decision: the question you ask, the promise you keep, the boundary you communicate or the action you begin.
Give yourself a Challenge Point
A chosen identity does not require a perfect performance. Choose a step that invites growth and is possible to engage with. This is the practical spirit of the Challenge Point.
If you envisage being a compelling speaker, your next step might be a thoughtful contribution in a meeting. If you envisage being a generous mentor, it might be helping someone clarify their own thinking before offering your answer.
Afterwards, ask what you noticed. Where did your expression feel coherent? Where did another familiar response appear? What would you choose to practise next?
Refinement keeps the identity alive. It gives you something to do with the information your experience provides.
A reflection for today
Write three sentences: “The life I choose is…”, “The person living that life brings…” and “Today I will express that through…”
Make the last sentence concrete enough to recognise in action. Keep the dream expansive and the next expression clear.
Who you choose to become can enter your life through the next moment you consciously live.
